Jenks Playground, originally built in 1997, recently underwent a professional assessment by its original builder, Leathers Inc. of Ithaca, New York. As the playground approaches its 30th year, FOCP invited Leathers back to evaluate the structure’s current condition and help begin conversations about long‑term planning for the space.
Wooden playgrounds of this type typically have a lifespan of about 25 years. Thanks to FOCP’s ongoing maintenance efforts, the Jenks structure has remained usable well beyond that time-frame. However, the findings in the recent assessment indicate that the playground is nearing the end of its practical life. With this in mind, it may be time for the community to begin planning for a new playground that will serve families for decades to come.
FOCP will continue to share updates as planning progresses and as we work with partners to determine the best path forward for the Jenks community.
